NOEAEC. The NOEAEC is the concentration at or below which no long-lasting, adverse effects on population growth and community
structure are observed. Recovery within 8 weeks upon initial exposure is considered acceptable. The NOAEAC can,
therefore, be higher than the NOECcommunity since recovery is incorporated.
The NOEAEC may be used directly for risk assessment (comparison with PEC), if no uncertainty is left. Otherwise an
uncertainty factor (expert judgement) is applied in order to derive the ecologically acceptable concentration (EAC), defined
as the concentration at or below which no ecologically adverse effects are expected. In the PRA, the EAC is considered to
be comparable in its concept to the PNEC. However, the latter assumption is questionable, as pointed out in the following.
